What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is a Chinese art of determining the proper positioning of household furniture and equipment to attain good luck, prosperity and good health. The etymology of the term came from the Chinese words which mean wind and water, respectively. The reason behind this is the idea that Chinese people consider wind and water are largely coupled with good well-being. Therefore, having a good Feng Shui means having good luck, prosperity and good health while the negative one means having bad luck, scarcity and illness.
Most homes even the modern ones in the urban setting try to apply Feng Shui in the decorating them. Some affluent people even hire Feng Shui experts to determine the right positioning of their household furniture and equipment, and tailor the Feng Shui concepts as applicable to them. All the rooms in the house from the bedroom to the bathroom, from the foyer to the patio, and from the living room to the kitchen, these can all be designed in a way the good Feng Shui comes continuously inside the home.
The continuity of air flow and having enough lighting is also dictated by the concept of Feng Shui. Air flow should be continuous in all parts of the house, and according to Feng Shui, it is necessary to remove all items that block the flux of air. Lighting is specifically chosen depending on the type of the room. In the bedroom, dimmer lights are preferred according to Feng Shui while brighter lights should be found in living room and kitchen. This has science that come along with it since proper resting can be achieved with dimmer lights in the case of the bedroom and safety is ensured with brighter lights such as its use in the living room and the kitchen. Thus, Feng Shui is not merely opinions but science has also a contribution in the whole idea of good and bad Feng Shui.
